Harsimrat Kaur Badal is one of the most powerful and articulate female voices in contemporary north Indian politics, combining extensive central executive governance with unmatched regional political lineage. Born on 25 July 1966 in New Delhi into a prominent family, she completed her professional graduation in textile design. She is married to former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and is the daughter-in-law of the legendary veteran statesman the late Parkash Singh Badal. She entered active public service in the 2000s, launching the acclaimed “Nanhi Chhaan” social movement to protect the girl child and preserve environment trees. Winning her debut parliamentary campaign from Bathinda in 2009, she built a national reputation for her sharp, articulate presentation in the house.
