BHOPAL — Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri secured an uncontested entry into the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. Election authorities confirmed his victory after rival nomination papers failed to meet mandatory statutory requirements during scrutiny in the state capital.
Puri sailed through without opposition. Officials rejected papers filed by Rajkumar Lohani and Kante Sayanna. Both candidates fell short of necessary legal benchmarks.
State BJP leaders gathered at the assembly complex. Hemant Khandelwal stood alongside party functionaries as Puri collected his formal certificate of election from returning officers.
Parliamentary Arithmetic and Vacancy Context
This legislative transition stems from a recent departure. Union Minister of State L Murugan stepped down from his Upper House seat in mid-October. That resignation triggered the bypoll mandate across the state legislative assembly.
With numbers heavily stacked inside the Madhya Pradesh assembly, opposition benches mounted no credible contest. The ruling party ensured a smooth legislative passage.
Puri continues handling his central ministerial portfolios without interruption. Formal notification papers have already reached the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats in New Delhi.
