Agatha Sangma’s long public career represents a highly successful blending of an elite international environmental background with deep hereditary commitment to northeastern development. Born on 24 July 1980 in New Delhi, she is the daughter of the legendary former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma and the sister of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. She completed her law graduation from Pune and pursued higher studies in environmental management at the University of Nottingham, UK. She entered active politics in 2008 following her father’s legislative transition, winning her debut parliamentary race.
