Isha Khan Choudhury is a prominent Indian politician from West Bengal and the current Member of Parliament for the Maldaha Dakshin constituency. Born on 22 May 1971, he hails from the influential “Kotwali family” of Malda, which has been a cornerstone of West Bengal politics for decades. His father, Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury, and his legendary uncle, the late A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury, were both stalwarts of the Indian National Congress (INC). Educated at York University in Canada, Isha Khan Choudhury brought an international perspective to his political career, blending his family’s traditional influence with a modern approach to governance. He first entered the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in 2011, winning from the Baisnabnagar constituency, and later represented Sujapur in 2016, where he famously defeated his own uncle, Abu Nasar Khan Choudhury, in a highly publicized family rivalry. His transition to national politics was cemented in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when he successfully contested and won the Maldaha Dakshin seat, taking over the mantle from his father. As an MP, he is committed to the development of the Malda region, focusing on infrastructure, agricultural welfare, and the modernization of local amenities. His legislative work is deeply influenced by his family’s long-standing focus on rural development and the socio-economic upliftment of the Malda and Murshidabad districts. Beyond his political duties, Choudhury is known for his business interests and social work, often acting as a bridge between the party’s historical legacy and the requirements of a younger, aspirational electorate. He remains a key figure within the INC in West Bengal, dedicated to upholding his family’s political heritage while addressing the contemporary challenges of unemployment, healthcare access, and regional connectivity in his constituency.
