About Soumendu Adhikari

Soumendu Adhikari has built a robust public career deeply embedded in the civic development and political machinery of the East Midnapore coastal belt. Born on 15 December 1970 in Contai, he is the son of veteran statesman Sisir Adhikari and the younger brother of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. He completed his graduation and law studies from the University of Calcutta before entering urban local administration. As the long-standing Chairman of the Contai Municipality, he supervised major city drainage expansions, modern beach tourism zoning blueprints in Digha, and local electrification frameworks. In 2020, following a high-profile family shift, he transitioned from the Trinamool Congress to the BJP. Nominated to retain the traditional family stronghold of Kanthi in the 2024 general elections, he ran an intensive campaign to claim the seat.
